It is not business writing. It is modeling. IOmap, CRT, evaporating cloud, 5FS. Very less writing. The project case addresses the linkage between maintenance practices and organizational goals. The case study presents a copper mine with particular issues related to its management of maintenance. In the mining area it is not unusual for maintenance to take up 50% or more of operating expenditure. There is potential for significant benefit from optimizing maintenance practices with respect to the organizational goal (assumed to maximize shareholder value). The project involves the creation of an Intermediate Objectives Map which relates CSFs to the goal of maintenance (you need to give some thought to what the goal of maintenance is in the "TOC World". Using this IO Map you then can define the relevant UDEs to start your CRT (current Reality Tree). Once you have completed the CRT you should have a good idea of the root cause and fundamental conflict in the way that the mine manages maintenance. You can then propose an injection to resolve the basic conflict. The final product (assuming you propose a TOC based solution/injection) will describe how that injection resolves the conflict. This will require you determine the constraint and use the 5 focusing steps to address the constraint. You will make recommendations as to how this improvement will be maintained. The case description will provide the main source of data but you will need to research independently as well. The project report should contain a minimum of writing - the marking guide will focus on the clarity and correctness of the TOC products, IO Map, CRT, EC, and 5FS . The report has no word limit but really should be no longer than 6-8 pages with one diagram per page, perhaps with a short description.
