Part A: (Decision & Discussions)
With guidance and approval from the professor students will choose a movie (fiction or nonfiction) where at least one of the main characters is an adolescent, young adult, mature adult or aging adult.
I recommend two (2) viewings. By the second viewing focus on a specific character and summarize the social role and contextual influences surrounding the character.
During the first viewing, examine how the characters are portrayed (personality, self identity, & factors influencing/affecting the character’s behaviour, growth, and development) in popular culture (media: print or movie).
Pick one of the characters to focus on for further exploration. Observe how social roles are represented and the contextual factors that influence the construction of these roles. Examine the realistic representation of the character by engaging in discussions with peers. Share and listen to different perspectives/views that support or deviate from social expectations within the specific context of the story and
Reflect on the similarities or differences of personal experiences.
By second viewing think about: attitudes (including prejudice, discrimination, stereotypes etc.), aggression, social influence, group behaviour (peer pressure, perceived expectations etc.), cognition, compliance, conformity, obedience, deception, perception of self (identity) and others (including gender and sexuality), altruism, violence, attachment, body image, bullying, victimization, career choice and support systems... also focus on how perceptions change or stay the same over time, reflect on change or lack of change and what may be possible explanations/rationales for change or lack of change.
Now you are ready to begin Part A: L.O.1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9 & 10

Part B: Research& Analysis:(written) L.O.L.O.1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9 & 10 (14%)
•Use Bronfrenbrenner Ecological theory as a framework to explain the influence and interdependence of the various systems on lifespan development as it relates to the character, situation and/or current events. The paper will also offer other possible explanations/rationales about the outcome on the present and future situation. Use at Least three (3) theoretical frameworks to support explanations/rationales. Consider a Behaviourist (classical and/or operant conditioning, associations, rewards vs. punishments), Psychodynamic (conscious, unconscious, drives), Cognitive, Social or Interactionist perspective to explain the formation and influence of identities (character/self) as well as possible developmental outcomes across the lifespan.
Approximately 4-5 pages.
•Note: Students must follow the APA format and guidelines. To be written following essay/research paper format with appropriate citations and referencing.
