Contest Brief

In addition to the $100 prize, the winner (and possibly others) will be offered a weekly gig to write for The Daily Bell, with compensation ranging from $50-100 per article, depending on the quality of the initial submission.

I am looking for an article somewhere around 500-1000 words. This article needs to be about a topic relating to individual freedom. It could explore a way to achieve freedom, a way to thwart a particular threat to freedom, or delve into the philosophy of freedom, and why it is important for individual success and society at large.

You may want to sign up for The Daily Bell email list in order to download the free guide: Your Two Year Plan for Freedom: How to reclaim 3 specific freedoms in two years. This should give you plenty of ideas, and a solid understanding of what we are going for.

Think libertarian, anarcho-capitalist, voluntaryist, free market etc. Pro-technological innovation and emerging markets (cryptocurrencies, blockchain government, Special Economic Zones, even Uber and AirBnB sort of apps). Pro tools that help individuals start a business, avoid excessive taxation and regulation, pursue their dreams and passions.

It is all about individual empowerment, and how to live the life you have always dreamed, not allowing the government, the media, corporations, banks, or your peers to hold you back.

Check out TheDailyBell.com to get an idea of what kind of content we post, but don't let this limit you! Creative is good, and we are always looking to expand. But keep in mind that we are generally for lower taxes, less government regulation, and more individual empowerment.

At the same time, exploring how to neuter corporate power over government would be appropriate. (For example, sometimes more regulation wouldn't hold a corporation accountable because they are politically connected enough to write the regulation themselves and focus its most damaging effects on competitors and the little guy just getting started. Or if a corporation is subsidized, is it really a "private" company in a free market?)

I'm really looking for someone who is aligned with this philosophy and excited to promote it. I want to hear about all the cool ways you have heard about and experienced that allow an individual to be as free as possible (without harming others of course).

If you have a personal story of freeing yourself or a case study of how someone else did it, great! (Examples: We have a story about a man who fled Venezuela after getting Bitcoin donations online. In the "Two Year Plan" guide, we discuss a couple who moved to Florida, quit their corporate jobs, and started a mini-farm and eBay business.)

Feel free to post ideas on the message board before you get started, since I know it is a risk to spend time writing an article you might not get paid for.

Finally, one last tool that should give you an idea of what I want is The Daily Bell brand sheet, attached to this contest as a file.

Thank you for joining the contest, I am super excited to read your entries and welcome a new member (or members) to the team!

#extended I want to discuss how being a citizen of the world, e.g. traveling the world on a permanent basis, offers more individual freedom. My own travels inspired my perspective but I want to work a brief profile sketch of someone like "The Hobo Traveler," Andy Lee Graham, into the article to give the idea legs and a face. My inspiration to turn libertarian can be traced back to 2009 when I attended The Institute for Humane Studies Summer Journalism Seminar. Over the course of that week, I met and conversed with Kevin D. Williamson of the National Review, a self-described anarchist. I was intrigued by his free thinking and by the general discussion of the ideas of Ludwig Von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard. I apologize for the late entry. I just finished a super-busy week. Thank you

Hey there! I want to explore minimalism as a means of freedom. Do you think this is something that could resonate well with the readers? I believe that building a low-maintenance life is in itself very liberating. Thoughts? Thanks :)

Please see entry #9. I can write on many other topics as well related to the three keys mentioned in the article, plus others. In the last 10 years, I have made it my personal mission to gain independence from the rat race in settings as small as a one bedroom apartment, as well as other areas where it is extremely challenging to gain the kind of independence that comes with a reasonable level of security.

Just to clarify, this project is revolved around freedom of any kind? Would a focus of individual freedom while being in a relationship be an article of interest?
