Contest Brief

PLEASE READ THE FULL BRIEF AND *CHECK OUT THE IMAGES INCLUDED*

I'm looking for a logo for a new Dance music venture - 9th Dimension. Under this name I am promoting various dance events in the UK.

I have the domains of www.9thdimension.co.uk and www.9thd.co.uk so maybe working something based around 9thD could work ?

(please note - those websites currently point to a very different type of Alt music website so please don't look at them for any inspiration - def wanting something very dance orientated)

I'd really like something futuristic but not too defining to one genre or another - the kind of dance music I'm covering will be quite broad (house / techno / electro) and so something that looks like it could work well with more than one genre (so as an example - a 'skrillex' kind of logo wouldn't work as I may well be running a deep house or techno event that month).

So '9th Dimension' isn't really an event name (I have a few different kind of events), this is for a logo that can brand the promotion/production company behind it.

Ideally the logo would look great at all sizes - either on a website, tshirt, large banner at an event, or as a small logo that would be on a flyer as a branding signature.

A FLAT UNIFORM COLOUR(s) would work best - as quite often this will be on a flyer/poster in a very dark room, so I tend to use them as high contrast (white on dark bg, or black on a light bg eg). If you wanted to include contrasting colours, maybe as an accent, again having them solid would be the most effective.

I'm going to do the classicly bad line next "like this, but not this" line (very sorry!), but I like how the Resident Advisor / Beatport / Warehouse Project logos can work on a flyer amongst lots of other logos. But not like them (or, not too much) - I'm using them more as an example of their function and how those company's brand their sites and promotional materials rather than how I'd like them to actually look.

I would def want the number 9 ( not 'nine' ) in the logo and maybe something geometric or abstracting the 9 geometrically ?
If you can incorporate the 'th' and the 'D' or 'Dimension' that'd be great also.

If it's possible to have a logo that can work as just 9thD and 9thDimension that's great too, but it's not essential, especially if you have a fabulous idea which can't incorporate both. But saying that, if you're able to also have an extra version which is '9thDimension Promotions' as well that'd be good too see.

9THD is also an interesting way to present this is it is a help in coming up with original ideas.

I doubt this would happen (again, sorry! to mention this) but guess I should mention - Please don't just grab a typeface from Dafont.com and submit that tweaked (I can do that lol) - I'm looking for something that can be versatile and strong, 'familiar' but also unique, and that can appeal and resonate with a dance crowd. Same goes for just dropping some clip art on or stock icon/imagery. I really need something unique.

And please, def no 'dancing girl' Silhoettes!

I'm a designer myself but I know logo design is a highly specialised skill and I wanted to put out a competition with a decent prize. Ideally this competition is best suited to a designer who knows and loves dance music and it's iconic branding history. That said I welcome designs from everyone, but if you don't know dance music and it's (very) high quality standards of design, please do some research on some of the more iconic club brands and how they use logotype and typography.

I've included a few images of logos and how they can work to hopefully illustrate what I'm after.

Thank for checking out this (and I hope I phrased it ok as I've never used this service before). Looking forwards to seeing what you can create for this project.

Many thanks - sorry it's a long and a bit rambly a brief, but hope it helps inspire (and again - Geometric is something to consider when creating this)

Many thanks to everyone who submitted designs to the competition, but I have decided to end the competition early just as there is an exceptional strong and gerometric abstract design (and very close to the orginal brief that took visual cues from the images I also included) that really stood out. Sorry to all the other entries, and I appreciate all your efforts in this competition.

please guys - please read the BRIEF - getting a lot of designs that really don't suit a dance crowd (and I def don't want to waste your time) - also there's a fair few Laurel Wreath's in these - they don't really work - I'm after something Geometric (though happy to look at other ideas), but an inventive geometric/abstract idea is def going to be a big plus. Also - please double check how major dance events websites present they're typography - look at websites by warehouse project / resident advisor (there's many event flyers on there - more techno than the EDM type events please) and the techno club events of major european cities.

None of these first images are what I'm after sorry - please read the design brief carefully and also I included some images to hopefully help. Check out iconic dance clubs and their branding (theres millions of their flyers on fb or twitter) to give you ideas and the sort of very high standard of design dance music commands
