Cartoon Strip

Contest Brief

We provide leadership training both online and in classroom. I want a cartoon strip that will convey principles and has a down to earth, somewhat humorous approach to teaching Harry how to lead. The freelancer will be chosen based on the quality of a sample strip submitted. You will be allowed to include your name as author of the cartoon, which I plan to issue weekly. The instructor is Dr Ben, a black man and Harry is a white man about 45 years old. The dialog for the characters is below. Darned upload didn't work.

Harry Learns Leadership

Dr Ben: So Harry, you're having problems with your employees?
Harry: You bet! They're lazy and won't do what I tell them.
Dr Ben: You need to lead them Harry, not boss them around.
Harry: How do I do that?
Dr Ben: You lead by getting them to WANT to do what needs to be done.
Harry: I'm paying them. Isn't that enough?
Dr Ben: No, Harry. Show them why the work is worthwhile.
Harry: What do you mean?
Dr Ben: People want to do work that has value.
Harry: I see. Okay, I’ll try that.
LATER
Dr Ben: You look happy, Harry. Your employees doing better?
Harry: Yes, sir! That value idea really worked. Thanks.

Note: Each exchange between Dr Ben and Harry should be a frame, so there will be six frames total.

I expected you'd call it a sore loser attitude. There you are mistaken and you misunderstood the intent here. I don't mind who wins and whomever fits the solution to your problem. The point is that you didn't allow the process to complete its natural flow and deliver the best spread of results to choose from. Your impatience has sacrificed quality at the same price.

This is free advice from one professional to another: you settled for the first good result, not the best result.

I learned many years ago that when I find EXACTLY what I am looking for, to take it. I don't work with people who wait until the last minute to do something, either. You are assuming that you would have done something better that the entry which I chose. I am not impatient. I simply know what I am looking for. Your attitude is one of arrogance, together with being a sore loser. I should know. I've seen plenty of your kind in 76 years. Go climb back under the rock you slithered out from and bother someone else.

Good luck with your project. You could have gotten vastly superior work, but you chose to disrespect the deadline and as such disrespect the process of creating such material. I wonder if you instruct your students to settle for the first thing instead of the best thing? When you set a deadline, that is the benchmark used by professionals. You can find many people who will rush a job in order to be done first. I guess you opted for checking a box instead of aiming for quality.

You may construe my post as bad business etiquette and a case of sour grapes. Not at all. Professionalism demands a level of mutual respect. By closing the contest early, you have displayed scant respect and understanding for the services you were aiming to hire. Myself, as many others, were preparing work for this, expecting the deadline would be honoured.

Your sore loser attitude tells me all I need to know about you.

I've revised the contest description to include it, as I can't figure out how to upload it after the fact.

Can you please upload the dialog here? Or do we need to create the dialog for the sample design?

I don't know how to upload it now, so I edited the description of the contest to include it. Sorry. I was using a tablet and the darned thing just annoys me by doing that all the time (excluding an upload).
