Contest Brief

I have a logo that I'm very happy with.

I need an animated version of it to act as a video intro for my productions.

Before I go into details the basic principle is this...I need the characters to run in from off-screen, left to right, to jump up onto the words and jump again in mid-air. "Performing a Double Jump".

It should It should have a transparent background. So it can be used over photo's, a background color of my choice or video.

Anyone not familiar with a "double jump" google is your friend, research some retro platform games. Id love the characters to perform different styles of double jumps, perhaps the female character does the regular double jump and the guy does a somersault double jump? Whatever works smoothly.

I had an animator attempt to do what I need, I've attached the previous attempt video but it's far from what I was looking for. So much so I didn't bother having him finish it by animating the second character in. As you can see there wasn't a correct sprite created for motion and the character goes blocky and strange looking when the character takes steps and little to no animation when he jumps. His arms and legs dont move enough, there should be more frames/character positions as he moves. The motion is very glitchy even for a 16 bit look.

As bad as this attempt was, the direction and speed he runs in is perfect. As you can see in the sample Id like the light trails layer to be revealed as they jump, this was also done well. And the characters should come to rest in the position they are in my logo. This was also done well as at the time I only had the man in the logo.

The static logo is uploaded here as a layered .psd as well as the individual characters and logo elements.

The entire logo has to come to life as they run in and settle to static as they freeze in mid jump.

The details that will make a winning contest entrant will be variations and options, maybe some the lights in the buildings behind flicker on and off a little, maybe the grass or sunset has subtle motion to it. Have fun with it. It should come to life and settle to still but don't make it too over the top . All motions in the background should be subtle.

I work in visual media, I'll need delivery of the final product in the format in which you edited the file as well as exported video files.

So to sum up.

They run into screen
Left to right
Well animate movement of arms and motion (Better than the previous animator)
Double jump over the words, simple jump, somersault jump etc at your discretion.
They should end up frozen in mid-air as they are in my logo (SO THE LOGO IN THE .PSD IS THE FINAL IMAGE)
Their double jump light trails should be left behind them as they jump.
Subtle animations made to grass, building lights, sunset etc, whatever looks best without looking busy.
Versions on Clear backed video animation to be used over images and video.
Maybe add Pixel clouds moving past them from right to left to help motion look? Get creative!

Best of luck. I can wait to see your work.

I made a checklist from one entry here that got 5 stars from you on the things that possibly made it 5 stars and I made it all on mine plus my own style and creativity. I'm just wondering if I missed something that I only got 4 star? Or is it because it's not finished?

If I luckily won, I'll finish it before the prize handover. Sorry man if i stumbled on this project so late, 10 hours before the deadline. So I havent had the chance to revise it like the other entries. I'm a fan of the classic megaman btw so you see how it goes. :)

guess I cant finish it, it's my first time drawing pixels and i realized its much more time consuming than the standard anime style animation. I can atleast finish it with the boy until later just to showcase my skill and will just continue with the girl and finish it if i luckily win the contest

For some reason, I can't reply to your previous post about redoing the logo before animating it. If you think this falls within the budget for this project feel free! I'm open to all suggestions. You seem so game centric that I know you understand exacty what Im going for so... Im stoked to see what you come with.

Just a note also. Inside the .psd file you will find the original editing file from my artist, in here you should be able to export the individual layers/characters into your editing patform of choice in any format you choose

If that is the case, I'd like to offer you to redo the logo from scratch and then animate it. I also think the design could be more consistent (you don't see grass, bricks and cityscapes in same level in retro games), interesting (could look like an actual game title) and colorful (more catchy than green, brown, beige and pink), however I could just redo it as it is and make the animations on top of it. Otherwise doing pixel art in such high resolution would feel like assembling pepper that went through a shredder, while usually it should feel more like a jigsaw puzzle.

Hello, could you please provide the non-upscaled sprites for the logo? In order to animate them, I'd need each 'block' to be a size of exactly 1 pixel. Currently each 'block' is 15x15 pixels, and when I downscale them reducing the resolution by exactly x15, I get a number with decimals that get rounded down. As a result the original structure of the pixels gets distorted. Therefore, if you still have them, please send me the sprites in their original resolution, I can always upscale them to the size you need after the animations are in place and you're happy with how everything looks. Thank you!

Im sorry but the images I have are the ones the original designer handed over. I can request them from him though and I'll get back to you ASAP if I have any luck.

So just to clarify (I'm sure entrants have just been showing me one character as it makes sense to get approval on style before working on the female character) I just wanted to clarify that unlike the original draft Ill be needing both characters to enter shot and double jump. Many Thanks.

Correct sir, yes! Usually, when I create text transitions and graphics for a video I export them as avi alpha+rgb transparent background. For the purposes of designing and submitting to the contest obviously any color background is fine.
