Contest Brief
Hey freelancers!
I am very excited to let everyone know that I have successfully created and finished the first edition to my Trading Card Game: Alzaran TCG. We are set to release the game this summer! For more info: please follow us on instagram. Username: @AlzaranTCG We also have a website: www.Alzaran.com and a YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/c/AlzaranTCG
Anyways, this year's Mecha Edition was just to get our foot in the door. We're now currently preparing for next year's edition and are looking to follow a few more strict guidelines for the illustration.
Given that the Mecha Edition was our first run, we weren't very strict on the illustration. We had several artists working and using their own talents. In the end, we got a lot of great pieces! But, you can tell that the illustration is all over the place and it doesn't match.
With this being said, moving forward we are going to have a very strict guideline on how we want the artwork to look. We're going to call it Alzaran Art.
Attached to this project we placed one image. Alzaran's very popular: Mecha Phoenix!
Please notice the details of the illustration. A few ideas to notice would be:
Line Art. Notice how the outlines (black ink) resemble that of an ink pen. They are not perfect vector lines and the thickness is very inconsistent. The lines are also not too thin and not too bold.
Colors. The colors are very vibrant. NOT PALE! They are very solid bold colors.
Shading/Gradients/Highlights: The lighting is done very smooth with air brush like textures.
As I mentioned above. we are looking for artists who can prove to us that they can very closely match the illustration type mentioned above and shown in the attached image. We have a few artist that we are keeping from this year's edition, including the one who did this piece. They do outstanding work! However, of course we have a large work load so we will need to hire a few more.
WHAT YOU ARE DOING FOR THIS PROJECT:
Next years edition will be the Orga Edition. So now instead of mechanical characters, they will all be organic.
With this being said, for this project you will be creating a Phoenix!
The point of this project is for me to find artists that can prove their ability to follow illustration guidelines and who are talented. I am also looking for enthusiasm in the project. The best artists are the ones who love what they do.
FINAL SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Design and create your very own Phoenix.
1.) Art Style - Follow the art illustration in the illustrationSample.png (Pay very close attention to the style of art.)
2.) Art Board size - The size must be the same as the template.png file. (Just download that file and use it as a temporary layer. This should automatically setup your artboard size.)
3.) Color Format - All colors must be in CMYK. You MUST change the colors before doing any work. No RGB. (Painting your art in RGB will look good on screen but horrible when I print them. Keeping your colors in native CMYK will allow you to choose your colors better, allowing me to print the cards in the way the you originally intended.)
4.) File Format - Your final entry must be a PSD file with 3 layers. (Your first layer must be the background. The second layer must be the character. The third layer must be all of the effects like fire, flying dirt, slashes, wind gusts, etc...)
Refer to the file entitled sampleCard.png to get an idea as to what your card will look like after I edit it into its frame.
