I believe that having a good online portfolio is essential if you want your employers to get a feel for what you have to offer.

Whether you are in writing, design, marketing or whatever,having a couple of samples of some completed projects, or maybe an article you wrote on the topic at hand, can do wonders for your hiring rate.

Sometimes employers do not really know where to look for such samples, and this is why I always direct them to my portfolio samples in my proposal. Sometimes,if the employer is new to the Freelancer.com marketplace,you can just send your samples in a *.word format for easier access.

Making it easier for your employer to see your talent (with relevant samples,of course) can go a long way in building your freelance business.
